Astrid Lindgren’s Beloved Classics to be Published as Audio Drama by Saga Egmont

On the occasion of Pippi Longstocking’s 80th anniversary in 2025, Saga Egmont takes the next step in its collaboration with The Astrid Lindgren Company and launches six new audio dramas based on the beloved stories of Pippi Longstocking and Emil in Lönneberga.

Saga Egmont has been a global partner of The Astrid Lindgren Company since 2021, publishing several audio dramas about the classic children’s book characters in Dutch, Italian and French. The new venture will allow Saga Egmont to publish Astrid Lindgren’s works in Swedish as well. Saga Egmont will publish three audio dramas about Pippi Longstocking with scripts by Maria Blom, and three about Emil with scripts by Eva Staaf.

The first stories will be released as a part of the celebration of Pippi’s 80th anniversary. A format that involves several narrators, sound effects and music that creates a unique experience for both young and old listeners.

The new agreement marks a milestone in the collaboration, and Saga Egmont is committed to preserving the originality and quality of the writing in every aspect of the production. This includes careful casting of actors who can bring the iconic characters to life.

Saga Egmont’s Publishing Director and Head of Global Rights, Stephanie Andén comments on the collaboration:

Stéphanie Andén about the collaborationn with the Astrid Lindgren company

“We are extremely honored to work with Astrid Lindgren’s material and legacy, and we will do so with the utmost respect for the works. When we started our collaboration with Astrid Lindgren Aktiebolag in 2021, we could only dream of also having the great honor of publishing these amazing stories in Astrid Lindgren’s home market. Now that this is a fact, we see it as a result of our hard work and good cooperation.”

Max Hallén, CEO of The Astrid Lindgren Company said:

“We are impressed by Saga Egmont’s solid work with the scripts and productions of the Pippi and Emil stories as audio dramas. We look forward to the Swedish audience getting the opportunity to enjoy them as well.”
